Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of boat will we be on?

Our boats range in size from 30’ to 38’ in length. They are big comfortable boats with a bathroom, kitchen and seating area. Each boat is properly outfitted with all Coast Guard required safety and navigational equipment and is thoroughly inspected, insured, and maintained. Every KCBA boat is operated by a state and federally licensed captain. Your safety and comfort are our number one priority.

How many people can we bring?

By license, we’re allowed to carry up to six passengers per boat. However, six-people is not a required number! Charter rates are adjusted by the number of people in your group. We do not mix groups, the boat is for your group only. Simply put, your group will not be combined with another! The KCBA is also able to accommodate large group (multi-boat) charters for fund-raisers, office outings, etc. Contact our booking agent for more information.

Who will clean all our fish?

Don’t worry! As part of the charter your catch will be either gut-gilled or filleted…your choice! You may want to ask your captain for tips on how to prepare your fish. You may choose to have some of your catch prepared for you at one of our fine harbor-area restaurants!

What happens if the weather is bad?

In the event your captain determines the lake is too rough to fish, we will do our best to notify you ahead of time and reschedule your date. However, there may be days when this decision is made at the dock. Your deposit will be forwarded to another date or refunded. We do fish in the rain, so bring rain gear!

What do I need to do to get this started?

After you’ve put together your party, choose a date or two that fits your schedule and call our toll-free, 800 number to make your reservations. Our booking agent will take your date and provide you with any other information you may need prior to your trip. A $150.00 deposit will be required to hold your date (refundable with a 30 day notice of cancellation). Visa and MasterCards are accepted.

What if I’ve never been fishing before?

Although the fish you may catch can be pretty big, the equipment we use on board our boats is sturdy and easy to use. Your captain will provide plenty of clear instructions on how to use the equipment. They will also give plenty of tips on fighting the fish. Feel free to ask questions.

What kind of fish will we catch?

The size, species, and numbers of fish will depend mainly on what time of season you take your charter. The general rule of thumb is, Springtime – large quantities of fish, smaller average size; Summertime – larger size fish, more variety; Fall – typically the largest fish of the year – trophy fish. While fishing conditions do change, you can be assured your captain will put you into the hottest action possible!

What will I need to bring on a charter?

Actually, surprisingly little! All the fishing equipment is furnished. So you will only need to bring food and beverages for your group, adequate clothing, cooler to transport your fish home, and fishing licenses.
